“Language Assessment in Indonesian Higher Education: A Reference Book on Theory, Practice, and Contextualized CEFR Implementation” discusses the theoretical and practical foundations of language assessment in Indonesian higher education, using the CEFR as a reference adapted to local needs. The discussion begins with basic assessment concepts, the principles of validity, reliability, authenticity, and washback, as well as the challenges of implementing language assessment in diverse higher education environments.
Next, the book presents the assessment framework development process, starting from an analysis of lecturers’ and students’ needs, followed by the adaptation of CEFR descriptors through collaboration with language assessment experts. The resulting instrument was then validated and empirically tested, resulting in a reading and listening assessment model that has good internal consistency and is relevant to the context of English language learning in Indonesia.
As a reference book, this work is intended for lecturers, researchers, curriculum developers, and higher education administrators who want to build a high-quality and contextual language assessment system. In addition to offering sample assignments, assessment rubrics, and implementation guidelines, this book also provides direction for the development of assessment literacy for educators so that international standards can be implemented without ignoring the cultural, academic characteristics, and needs of Indonesian students.
